Nursing Career Book Features Nurses for a Healthier Tomorrow

Your Career in Nursing, a new Kaplan Inc./Simon & Schuster book that was published in January 2003, features Nurses for a Healthier Tomorrow in one of its chapters.

The book's first chapter, "The 21st Century Nurse," includes information about the coalition. One of the coalition's print ads also accompanies the copy. The chapter discusses trends in health care, including the nursing shortage and responses to 9/11.

Your Career in Nursing is written by Annette T. Vallano, a practicing nurse and nursing career specialist. It offers nurses the expert advice they need to take charge of their careers.

The book includes strategies for reaching the needs of the health care marketplace, advice for updating and upgrading clinical skills, profiles of nurses who have adapted their careers and business strategies for managing a nursing career. The book also includes special chapters for the older nurse, newly graduated nurse, male nurse and second-career nurse.

Moviegoers Get the Nursing Message
Nurses for a Healthier Tomorrow brought its message to the movies in a summer 2002 campaign. Looking for a new outlet to tellt he public that nursing is an exciting career choice, the coalitione xpanded its outreach campaign to include advertisements in movie theaters during May. May was chosen to honor Nurses Week, which was May 6 through 12. The on-screen ad featured real-life nurses from the coalition's print ad campaign, showcased the "Nursing. It's Real. It's Life." tagline, and directed moviegoers to the Web site. Reaching more than 2.5 million moviegoers, the on-screen ad appeared on 436 screens nationwide in the following major markets: Los Angeles, New York, Miami, Baltimore, Dallas, Washington, DC, Atlanta, Detroit, Seattle, Chicago, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Boston. Coalition sponsor JWT Specialized Communications created the ad and handled distribution.
